Sardinia
Whilst a proud part of Italy, Sardinia’s wines are notably Spanish and French in their influence.
The vineyards of this large island in the middle of the Mediterranean are mostly planted with Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan – a Spanish red – and influenced by the maritime climate and diversity of soils. A handful of winemakers are successfully venturing out with more unique varieties, a handful of which are grown almost exclusively on the island, particularly around Cagliari.
